The Best of Both Ministry

Jesus gave His disciples two very simple commands, "love the Lord your God above all else," and "love your neighbor as yourself." These are clear and to the point – great principles.

Then He sent them into the world, understanding that you just cannot separate principles and people. If you are going to lead, you have to have both –principles and people. You have choices where to get your principles; my suggestion is to seek them in the Bible. And not just spiritual principles, but business, leadership, and relationship principles.

I have been privileged in my 45-year career to spend time in three spaces – the business world, ministry, and Christian education. In addition to owning Coldwell Banker Tom Jenkins Realty, one of the nation’s largest Coldwell Banker franchises, I had the privilege of serving under Jim Gillispie as Chief Operating Officer for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation LLC. We worked with over 1800 franchises and company owned operations to improve their business and profitability. Following that I had the opportunity to serve in three churches – Shandon Baptist Church under Dr. Dick Lincoln as Minister of Education, Spring Valley Baptist Church under Dr. Windburn as Minister of Discipleship, and Chapin Baptist Church under Dr. Steve Cloud during his time serving as interim Pastor. Finally, God allowed me the privilege of serving under Dr. Bill Jones at Columbia International University as Vice President of Institutional Advancement, where I was responsible for admissions, financial aid, and athletics. These variety of experiences under such great leaders has equipped me to better serve God and His Kingdom.
